ACE Cash Express raises money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Few things are more devastating than childhood cancer. In the U.S., an average of 43 children are diagnosed with cancer every day. Despite this, only four percent of the National Institute of Health’s budget is used for childhood cancer research.

Even in dark situations, however, the smallest people can make the biggest difference.

Alex Scott started Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to fund the fight against childhood cancer. Though she lost her own fight at just eight years old, the legacy of her selfless efforts lives on in the work the foundation continues to do today.

Since 2017, ACE Community Fund has teamed up with ALSF through various fundraising events. For the last five years, several of the ACE Cash Express stores have chosen this organization as a recipient of their fundraising campaigns. We’ve been thrilled to partner with our consumers and communities, raising over $155,000 since our first campaign.

Fighting Childhood Cancer with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

When Alex was four years old, three years after her first cancer diagnosis, she decided she wanted to start a lemonade stand. Rather than using the money for toys or treats, she wanted to give it to doctors, so they could help other kids in the same way they were treating her cancer. Alex ran her first stand with her brother in 2000, collecting $2,000 to donate to the hospital that treated her.

Over the next four years, Alex and her family held annual lemonade stands to continue funding childhood cancer research. As more people heard about this brave girl and her incredible idea, they started holding their own lemonade stand fundraisers to support her cause.

Alex passed away in August 2004, at just eight years old. During her short years, she made an enormous difference, raising over a million dollars to fight cancer. Her family continued her legacy by starting the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in 2005. They have since raised over $200 million dollars.

In addition to donating to childhood cancer research, ALSF supports the parents and siblings of children diagnosed with cancer. From helping with travel costs to giving siblings the care and encouragement they need, this organization works hard to make a difficult situation that much better.

There’s no doubt that Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is helping children who desperately need this care. Since helping children is one of ACE Community Fund’s three focuses, our partnership has been a perfect fit.

We first started working with ALSF when several of our stores chose the organization for our annual Give A Little Campaign in 2017. For this fundraiser, each of our stores picks a non-profit to support during the month of May. Our consumers and team were so excited about supporting this cause that we have continued to feature them every year with great success.

ACE Cash Express is passionate about supporting our community. As we continue to partner with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to find a cure for childhood cancer, we can’t wait to see how we and our consumers can make a difference for our children.
